ABOUT  ME

About Me
Louise in a playing field with a golden retriever.

Hi! I'm Louise and I started pet caring by volunteering for Guide Dogs.  In this role initially I boarded a Labrador in his last months of training before he qualified as a Guide Dog to assist a visually impaired person.  I found the experience so rewarding that when my work for a charity came to an end, becoming a professional pet carer was the obvious next step.

I am still a Guide Dogs volunteer boarder and regularly free-run a local Guide Dog for his owner.

As well as dog services I also offer cat-feeding and fuss for when you are away.

  • I hold both Professional Indemnity & Public Liability Insurance and I am fully insured to transport animals

  • I am licensed by Bristol City Council to board up to two dogs at a time (Licence No. AWLA/117431)

  • I hold Level 3 Pet First Aid for Pet Professionals

  • I have enhanced DBS clearance

HOW IT WORKS

A small wire haired ginger coloured dog emerging from bushes where she has been exploring.
  • First I meet you and your pet(s) and we discuss your individual requirements. This is when you tell me about their personalities, likes & dislikes

  • Before we commence a service, you complete a form with all your pet(s) details including health record and vet contact. That way you have peace of mind when leaving your pet(s) in my care that I will act responsibly

  • While looking after your pets I send regular text updates & photos

Dog walking

A black cockapoo with a white chest in long grass on a walk.
  • I usually only walk dogs from the same household together, but occasionally bring along another well-socialised dog

  • Dogs are only walked off lead with their owner's express permission and only once I am confident of their recall. Until then I use a long lead or long line

  • Working with dogs I use the principles of praise & reward, not punishment

  • With your permission I can safely transport your pets in my car according to legal requirements

  • Dogs receive a healthy treat e.g. a dental stick at the end of their walk (but if you'd prefer them not to I'll always respect this)

Dog day care & boarding

  • Companionship and a home from home for your dog while you are out or away

  • Based at my home, your dog will have at least two walks a day, with opportunities to explore local green spaces

Testimonials

“I recently needed someone that I could trust to visit our home to look after our pets for a week. We have a much loved, elderly cat and fish.  A close friend who has used Louise's services a few times was very happy to recommend her and put me in contact.

When Louise visited us to meet all the pets prior to our trip, we showed her how we take care of them and she meticulously noted everything down.  Whilst we were away, Louise messaged us a couple of times to let us know that our pets were happy and safe and provided photos of them which was a really lovely touch. We returned home to happy pets.
I wouldn’t hesitate to ask Louise to look after our pets when we next go away.”

“Louise is fantastic with my anxious greyhound Portia. When she started visiting, Portia was recovering from an operation and Louise took great care in ensuring her comfort and going at her speed. Louise then worked at Portia's pace to build her confidence on walks and made great progress. Louise’s skill, knowledge and patience has benefited Portia and I have no hesitation in recommending her.”

Lucy, Whitehall

“Louise is great with Daisy: the first time she had her, she was extremely thorough and thoughtful about what Daisy liked and was used to. What’s particularly good is that Louise only has one or two dogs at a time: she doesn’t have loads of dogs that she can’t really watch, so your pet gets lots of attention.  We feel very reassured and confident that Daisy is not only safe and looked after but that she’s having a great time and getting lots of exercise!  She loves going out with Louise and is always keen to see her! Louise is very calm and assured when with the dogs; we are very happy with the service and can’t fault it.  We would thoroughly recommend Fishponds’ Furry Friends - they’re fab!”

“My four year old Cavachon Barney has been holidaying at Louise’s house since he was a year old.  He is always delighted to see her and I know when I am away that she will take the very best care of him.  She takes him on daily walks through fields and woods and he also gets plenty of attention back at the house and garden.  I get daily photos and updates and I know that he is safe and happy.  Louise is calm, knowledgeable and kind and encourages good dog behaviour. Also, you can be confident that your dog is being fed exactly as you require.  It’s truly home from home. Book early to avoid disappointment!”

“Louise has been walking and boarding our Border Collie Jess for a couple of years now and we are very happy to have found her.  She is such a warm and friendly person and so kind, gentle and professional that this gives you complete confidence that your precious pet is really well cared for.  Louise often sends photos of Jess when they’re out for a walk together and updates when Jess stays with her.  Most importantly Jess absolutely loves Louise!”

"We have used Louise's services for both dog walking and boarding several times.  She is very comprehensive in terms of understanding the dog's needs and health requirements, has a lovely dog friendly house and possibly most importantly loves dogs.  Our Golden Retriever Rufus is always pleased to see her (and Pete) and we can leave him safe in the knowledge he will have a holiday as well as us.  We have no hesitation in totally recommending Louise if you have to leave the canine member of your family for a while."

“My dog Toffee has been to stay with Louise and Pete a number of times when we've been away for the weekend or on holiday.  Toffee is quite a nervous rescue dog who is wary of people she doesn't know, and Louise has done an absolutely brilliant job of getting to know her and making her feel at home.  Louise's attention to detail is second to none, from getting to know Toffee before her visit, to keeping me in touch while I was away.  Both she and Pete are so gentle and sensitive to dogs' needs that Toffee has really enjoyed her visits, and is always delighted when she meets them in the park.  Louise is a true dog lover, and brilliant at understanding what is going on in their furry heads.  I can't recommend her enough!”

“In February before the lockdown Louise looked after my girls in our home which she treated with respect and left clean and tidy. I found her to be very kind and considerate of the dogs' needs – one of my girls can be quite challenging but Louise took this in her stride. The other is elderly and Louise was happy to walk them according to their differing needs. She sent pictures whilst I was away which put my mind at rest as I had never left them with anyone other than a family member before. I found Louise to be very professional and one of the qualities I like is her calmness.”

Teresa, Coalpit Heath

"Since a pup Suki has known Louise who has been through the ‘tough teen’ years with me and the naughty beagle!! Suki enjoys her walks and house visits when I am working away for the day.

Cheeky, my elderly cat has house visits for feeding, fuss & photos if we go away for a quick break and gratefully receives the same attentive kindness along with a lap!

I would recommend Louise to all of my friends - she is trustworthy, reliable, calm and kind - above all she loves animals so you can be confident they are well looked after whilst you are away."

“I have boarded my little dog Floyd with Fishponds Furry Friends ever since he was a year old.  He loves going there to stay and has a great relationship with Louise.  It really is home from home.  It's very reassuring to know someone that I am happy to trust my dog with, but who is professional, kind and loving too.”

"Louise has been walking our beagle Penny twice a week for several years, and I wish we'd found her sooner!  She's utterly reliable, trustworthy and personable, and looks after Penny as if she were her own.  Penny goes bonkers when Louise comes, so we know she thoroughly enjoys her walks!  We haven't needed to use Louise's home-boarding services yet, however we won't hesitate to do so, as we know Penny would absolutely love it!  We can't recommend Louise highly enough!"
